Message from December 2009
We are working on making a powerpoint of how we use technology at PS44. We are beginning to show the students how to use the flip cameras so we can begin making our digital yearbook. I have mostly k-2 classes, so trying to work with them makes for slow progress. I have one third grade class as well as Mr. Romano's class working diligently on techy projects.

2009-2010 Project:
TP: Introduce students to the concept of the environment.
Read Aloud “ Sharon Finds the Environment”
http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/sharon/sharon.htm
(Via the smart board)
Discuss the environment and list things found in the environment. Write a sentence(s) to describe something you can do to help the environment.
Use the site below to generate ideas.

TP: To introduce the tuxpaint program and design a picture to illustrate your sentence(s)showing what you can do to help the environment. Include your sentence in your illustration. http://www.tuxpaint.org/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_umu6sfVLEM

(The above is a slideshow of first grade illustrations depicting things they can do t help the environment)
TP: Use the information we have learned about the environment to play Michael, Michael, Go Recycle! http://funschool.kaboose.com/globe-rider/earth-day/games/game_michael_recycle.html

TP: To introduce powerpoint and have the students create a short presentation entitled “Things we can do to help the environment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUqIDs5MZxM

TP: To create a powerpoint presentation for each class including the tuxpaint illustrations created possibly using music from Garage band.

Each of the four classes participating will create a unique powerpoint presentation highlighting the illustrations created using tuxpaint. The illustrations will be grade appropriate and include writing as well as illustrations describing what is depicted in their drawings.
Other stories and books on the topic were used as read alouds to expand the topic including:
Stuff: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle by S. Kroll
Oil Spill by Melvin Berger
